So it's time to pick a photographer...

When you have a special event coming up or even a new milestone, you may find yourself questioning where to get a photographer. I often see social media posts saying "who knows a good photographer?", and usually many comments quickly begin to flow in. One thing I ALWAYS recommend is to ask your potential photographer for a portfolio. Next, I encourage you to really look through that and search for specific things. Do you like their style? Each photographer has their own unique editing style. Some shoot dark and moody, some are bright and airy, some love warmer tones. Find a photographer with a consistent editing style that you like. If you like a bright and airy feel to your photos but you choose a dark and moody photographer, well... we all know what's going to happen. You won't like your gallery and the photographer will be frustrated to hear you want them to re-edit their gallery. Next look for the way they pose their clients. Do you like posed shots, or candid? Or a mix of both? Looking at just these two things will really help you narrow down your search. Lastly, I encourage you to ask questions. Ask about turn around time, ask about contracts, ask about experience. Ask whatever questions you may have until you fully feel you have chosen the right person. Photography is more than clicking a button on a camera, its an art and photographers work very hard to have a good consistent portfolio and clientele.
